Andrey Kuzkin realises conceptual performances and installations inspired by Russian conceptualism but which bear within them a certain melancholy and brutalism. The artist’s drawings and objects are sometimes transformed in the course of an exhibition or encounter. Usually, Andrey Kuzkin is physically involved in his performances, leaving the direction of the project up to the visitors.
Every other day of the Biennale, visitors encountered Andrey Kuzkin sitting on a stool in front of Pavilion No. 1 at VDNKh. Two boxes next to him were filled with white balloons and nails. Each visitor got offered one nail and a balloon inflated by the artist. [Marie Egger]
