Nástio Mosquito, started a musical training, and moved from there to film production. He worked in different capacities for television in his native Angola for some time, but it were his deviations from entertainment formats that were to become his future life. Mosquito is first of all a performer, he translates this into audiovisual representations and installations.
Nástio Mosquito offers the Moscow biennial a day with his most important video’s till today. Each of the videos are an attempt to address a limit in perspective. Mosquito often makes unexpected moves in the proposal itself, such as in ‘Three continents’ in which he addresses the populations that he bought their state; ‘the Europeans’ is for him a notion fundamentally different from ‘Europe’. He also formalizes his appearances into characters, such as Nástia - not Nástio - who deals with grieves that need to be dealt with, as in ‘Nástia answers Gabi’. In order to reach his audience, Mosquito makes reference to a wide array of speech traditions, from stand up to political discourse. ‘Nástia's Manifesto’ is a clear example of this, as is ‘Frozen War’, a declaration from behind a lectern and a microphone.
